Description: Custom Computed Columns for R18

This course covers the syntax used by Datatel's database neutral computed column language.

Computed columns (field/column/function that is executed and returns a value rather than stores physical data) are an important part of the Colleague implementation. Computed columns are used in Rules and Communications Management and by native database tools when querying the database.

The class focuses on learning the tools used to create computed columns, gaining the knowledge of the specific syntax used and provides hands on experience with creating custom computed columns.

Further, the class includes background information on metadata research, computed column, and best practices.

Course Outcomes

  • Explain the concept of Envision metadata and its application to computed columns
  • Identify the forms required to create and test computed columns
  • Apply Datatel's database neutral syntax in computed column code
  • Identify what metadata repositories are populated as a result of when a computed column is generated
  • Utilize best practice standards when creating calculated columns
  • Create and manage computed columns

Recommended Course Preparation * Basic working knowledge of Colleague gained through an application class or work experience
